Trucking Program Coverages

Trucking Insurance Information from Great American Insurance Group

Trucking Program Coverages

Independent owner-operators and motor carriers alike know the risks of coast-to-coast hauling: collision, injury, disability, and theft. Truckers searching for reliable and affordable protection against these road hazards find it with Great American. Our Leased Owner Operator Products offer a variety range of coverage solutions including Physical Damage, Non-Trucking Liability, Occupational Accident, Contingent Liability, Workers' Compensation, Deductible Buyback and TruXpro.
Great American's Trucking Program is strengthened by the expertise of a coast-to-coast network of independent agents who specialize in these unique coverages. Our agents offer a varied menu of products and services to owner-operators, providing customized support and unwavering dedication to America's truckers.

Contingent Liability

Underwritten by Great American E&S Insurance Company, Contingent Liability policies are made available to Motor Carriers which sponsor Group Occupational Accident programs for their contracted Owner Operators. The policy provides defense coverage and indemnifies the Motor Carrier when a qualified independent contractor attempts to collect Workers' Compensation benefits as the Motor Carrier's employee.
Contingent Liability is only available to Motor Carriers which concurrently sponsor a Great American Insurance Company Group Occupational Accident program and have otherwise met minimum underwriting eligibility.

Deductible Buyback

The Deductible Buyback Endorsement protects Owner Operators from paying multiple deductibles after an accident. Lease contracts with motor carriers often require the owner-operator to assume responsibility for policy deductibles on the carrier's trailer and cargo as well as accident-related property damage. This contractual liability can be significant.
This affordable endorsement reimburses the owner-operator if multiple deductibles are paid during the settlement of an accident claim.
Low monthly fees offset a potentially expensive settlement: good news for the driver! Payment of policy deductibles is guaranteed: good news for the carrier! With Great American, that's a win-win!

Non-Trucking Liability

Non-Trucking Liability offers third party liability coverage for non-business use of the insured vehicle.

TruXpro Coverage Basics

Diminishing Deductible
Now an insured can get credit for not having a loss. An insureds original deductible will decrease by 25% for every loss-free year until the deductible reaches $0. If the insured has a loss during the policy term, the deductible is reset to the original amount after the loss. At the end of 4 consecutive loss-free years, the insured's deductible is zero!
Single Deductible
When a tractor and trailer are insured under the same policy and damages result from the same covered loss, the insured pays only one deductible.
Downtime/Rental Reimbursement
Benefits pay up to $5000 with a $150/ day and $750/ week limit,  subject to a short waiting period.
Personal Effect
Covers personal belongings inside an insured truck up to $5,000, subject to a $250 deductible.
Electronic Equipment
Covers the electronic equipment inside an insured truck up to $5,000, subject to a $250 deductible.
Tarps, Chains and Binders
Limit of $500 subject to a deductible of $100.

Workers' Compensation

For Fleet Owners - Fleet Owners who lease on to Motor Carriers often need to provide Workers' Compensation coverage for their drivers.  When a Motor Carrier sponsors a Great American Occupational Accident program for its leased Fleet Owners, Workers' Compensation for the Fleet Owners' employee drivers maybe available, subject to underwriting eligibility.
For Motor Carriers - Motor Carriers sponsoring a Great American Occupational Accident with Contingent Liability program, can purchase Workers' Compensation coverage for drivers and clerical employees of the Motor Carrier.  This enhancement provides convenience of "one stop shopping" for Motor Carriers with Owner Operator teams.
For Owner Operators - Certain states require that all truckers (regardless of Owner Operator status) be covered by Workers' Compensation.  Great American offers Workers Compensation for Owner Operators in those jurisdictions.

Ohio Domiciled Trucking Operations

Ohio employers are required to purchase a Workers' Compensation policy from the Bureau of Workers' Compensation. Ohio workers' compensation does not provide coverage for claims filed in any other state. Great American Insurance offers a solution, endorsed by the Ohio Trucking Association, for the long haul trucker with our "Other States Coverage".
