Condominium Owners Coverage

Information from Travelers

Travelers Logo

Condominium owners coverage basics

Condominium coverage is available to condominium and co-op owners, and bridges the gap between your condo association's master policy (which insures property owned by all unit owners) and your property and personal liability protection.
The master policy includes coverage for the actual building in which you reside, as well as common property like a pool or gazebo.
Personal Property Coverage
A condominium owners policy provides coverage for your furniture and personal possessions against such covered hazards as fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, explosion, collapse, smoke or vandalism. This is also called Contents Coverage and it ensures that your damaged or destroyed property is protected...up to the amount of insurance protection you purchase.
Theft protection: the condominium owners policy also protects your property against practically every type of theft loss in your condo or anywhere in the world. Also included is coverage for thefts from your unattended car or boat, even if there is no evidence of forced entry.
Special coverage for important possessions: Most condo policies offer special amounts of coverage for certain types of property. For example,
  • $200 for money and coins
  • $1,000 for theft of jewelry, watches or furs
  • $2,000 for theft of firearms
  • $2,500 for business property at home.
You can choose to increase these amounts if you like.
Optional Property Coverages
Every home is different. You may require special coverages for your individual needs. The following coverages can be purchased separately:
  • Broadened Coverage for Contents: provides "all-risk" protection for your possessions. This means that your personal property is covered in most situations, regardless of the cause of loss.
  • Contents Replacement Cost: pays full cost to repair or replace most personal property in your condo with no deduction for depreciation.
  • Valuable Items Plus: provides higher limits and worldwide protection for special property such as jewelry, silverware, fine art, furs, cameras, firearms, musical instruments, and home computers for an extended variety of losses. For your convenience, no appraisal or listing of insured items is required.
  • Additional Coverage Endorsement (ACE): extends protection or increases limits on special types of property (for example: jewelry, firearms, or silverware). This coverage also increases personal liability coverage by $100,000 and includes coverage for personal injury.
  • Coverage for other structures: you may own other structures that are not part of your basic condo unit (such as a carport, detached garage or storage shed). If these structures are not considered to be common property, they are not covered under your Association's Master Policy. This add-on coverage would insure these other structures.
Personal Liability Protection
Liability coverage is important protection in the event that you are sued for accidentally hurting other people or damaging their property. Personal liability helps to cover the associated legal costs and related damages. Most condo owners policies provide $100,000 (minimum) of financial protection against liability claims and lawsuits brought by others for accidental bodily injury or damage to their property:
  • while in your condo
  • caused by your personal activities, including most sports
  • caused by your children or pets.
Medical payments: Most policies will pay up to $1,000 per person in medical bills -- regardless of your legal responsibility -- when an accident involves bodily injury to others. Higher coverage amounts are available.
Damage to property of others: Should you accidentally damage someone else's personal property while that property is in your care, your condo owners policy will pay up to $500 for each occurrence.
Condo Additional Living Expenses
If your unit is damaged and you have to move out while it's being repaired, you're covered! The policy pays for all necessary living expenses (hotel, meals, laundry, etc.)...up to 40% of the contents coverage amount you selected.
Additions and Alterations
Once we move into a new home, we often make improvements. According to your condominium declaration and/or bylaws, you may be responsible for interior parts of your unit such as glass, walls and doors.
Additions, alterations and other improvements made to your unit are also covered. For example, if you or a previous owner installed built-in appliances, wall-to-wall carpeting, upgraded kitchen cabinets, etc., they are insured up to $2,500 (however, you can choose to increase this amount).
Loss Assessment Coverage
Condominium coverage provides up to $1,000 of protection against financial loss if damage to commonly owned property exceeds the amount of coverage in the Master Policy. If your condo association is forced to assess all unit owners for the additional loss (or for personal liability claims against the association), you're covered!
Choosing Your Condo Deductibles
A deductible is the amount of loss you agree to assume before your insurance coverage takes over. The higher your deductible, the lower the cost of your policy premium. The deductible applies to property losses only. Liability protection does not require a deductible.
The information on this site is general in nature. Any description of coverage is necessarily simplified. Whether a particular loss is covered depends on the specific facts and the provisions, exclusions and limits of the actual policy. Nothing on this site alters the terms or conditions of any of our policies. You should read the policy for a complete description of coverage. Coverage options, limits, discounts and deductibles are subject to availability and to individuals meeting our underwriting criteria. Not all features available in all areas.

Driving For The Fun Of It

Everything you need to know when it comes to insuring your recreational vehicles. Info from The Hartford.

The Hartford

RECREATIONAL VEHICLES

Driving for the Fun of It

Antique Car Coverage

Antique Cars Get Great Benefits

If you have an antique auto, The Hartford offers antique car insurance specifically geared to the needs of car owners like you.
One of the questions we field most often for this “old-car insurance” category is, “How do you define an antique auto?” An antique auto is generally 25 or more years old and is maintained primarily for use in parades, exhibitions, club activities, and other functions of public interest.

Save on Antique Car Insurance

Antique autos are eligible for many of the same discounts as "everyday" vehicles. For example, you may be eligible for discounts if you have an anti-theft device in your antique car, if you take an approved Defensive Driver Course, or if bundle your antique car insurance with homeowners insurance.
Availability of discounts and credits may vary by state or policy plan.

Antique Auto Insurance Coverage

In most states, the amount of coverage provided for an antique auto is determined using "stated amount" - an amount that you and The Hartford agree on as the maximum value for the vehicle. In the event of a loss, a claim adjuster will determine the current value of the antique auto, which cannot be more than the "stated amount" listed on the policy.
In some states, The Hartford is introducing antique auto coverage based on "agreed value." This is the amount of coverage that you and The Hartford agree on as the value for the car, based on a recent, certified appraisal. The following coverages are available for antique autos (varies by state):
  • Bodily Injury Liability
  • Property Damage Liability
  • Physical Damage to your auto (mandatory for antique autos)
For an additional premium, you may be able to add the following optional coverages (varies by state):
  • Towing and Labor
  • Extended Transportation
  • Full Glass

Get The Right Coverage At The Right Price

Information about Auto Insurance coverage options from State Farm

Get the Right Coverage at the Right Price

Auto Insurance Coverage That Fits You

Wondering what covers you and your vehicle in case of an accident? Wonder no more. State Farm® is there with the auto insurance coverage you need at a price you can afford — helping you in case of the unexpected.

    Liability Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
You were distracted while backing out of a parking space and didn't see the car behind you until it was too late. You hit the car and you crashed through a fence, too. Everyone in the other car seems fine, but the other driver and his passengers go to the emergency room just to make sure.
Liability Coverage pays damages due to bodily injury and property damages to others for which you are responsible. If you're sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of what Liability Bodily Injury may cover. Liability Property Damage covers damage to property and loss of its use.
How much coverage do you need?
Every state sets a minimum coverage level. Selecting more than the minimum coverage would increase your cost now but potentially give you more protection in case of an accident. Since it's impossible to know the most you'd have to pay if you were to cause an accident that resulted in bodily injury or property damage, be sure to take some time and consider whether you'd be able to afford any damages that exceed your auto insurance coverage. The higher your limits, the more likely it is that we'll be able to pay all of the damages for you. Limits higher than the state minimum might be the best choice for you.

    Medical Payments Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
You were stopped at a red light when another car hit yours. You were injured. Medical Payments Coverage will pay reasonable and necessary medical and funeral expenses for covered persons.
How much coverage do you need?
The coverage is not required by most states, but it provides great coverage at an affordable price. The cost will correspond to the limits you select. There are no deductibles or copays, so this coverage can pay from the first dollar of incurred, covered expenses.

    Collision Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
It's only a fender-bender, but the cost of the headlight, a new bumper, and a paint job can add up quickly. Collision Coverage will pay for damage to a covered vehicle caused by the following, subject to a deductible:
    • Collision with another vehicle
    • Collision with an object
    • A vehicle rollover
How high should your deductible be?
Higher deductibles lower your premium but increase the amount you'll have to pay out of your own pocket at the time of a loss. Ask yourself how much you're willing to pay when a loss occurs to save money on premiums.

    Comprehensive Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
Who'd have thought that little hailstones could do so much damage? Your car is covered with dozens of dents. This comprehensive coverage helps pay for loss of or damage to an insured vehicle, not caused by a collision or vehicle rollover. Typically, that's coverage for the following, and it may be subject to a deductible.
    • Fire
    • Wind
    • Hail
    • Flood
    • Vandalism
    • Theft
    • Hitting an animal
How high should your deductible be?
Higher deductibles lower your premium but increase the amount you'll have to pay out of your own pocket in case of a loss. Ask yourself how much you're willing to pay when a loss occurs to save money on premiums.

    Uninsured Motor Vehicle Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
It's a sad fact: There are people who drive without any liability insurance. What if you're injured in an accident caused by one of these drivers? Uninsured Motorist Coverage will pay for damages when you are injured in a car accident caused by another person who does not have sufficient liability insurance. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of bodily injury damages.
    Should you get this coverage?
Doing so lets you decide how much auto insurance coverage is potentially available to pay for your covered damages when you are in an accident caused by an uninsured motor vehicle.

    Underinsured Motor Vehicle Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
Many drivers carry low limits of liability coverage. What if you're injured in an accident caused by an underinsured driver? Underinsured Vehicle Coverage will pay for damages when you are injured in a car accident caused by another person who does not have sufficient liability insurance. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of bodily injury damages.
    Should you get this coverage?
Doing so lets you decide how much auto insurance coverage is available for your covered damages when you are in an accident caused by an underinsured motor vehicle.

Car Rental and Travel Expenses Coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?
Your car is in the shop after a collision. Rental Reimbursement pays the cost of renting a replacement vehicle so you don't have to interrupt your daily routine. Daily allowances or limits vary by state.
    Should you get this coverage?
Consider how you'd get to work, school, or the store if your car were out of commission. If you depend on having a car available, could you afford to pay for a rental car yourself without this auto insurance coverage?

    Emergency Road Service

    How are you covered?
Emergency Road Service provides towing your vehicle to a repair facility, mechanical labor at the place of breakdown when your vehicle becomes disabled, pulling your vehicle out of a location where it is stuck, delivery of gas or oil, assistance with changing a tire, a jumpstart and locksmith services. You can call 877-627-5757 for roadside assistance.
If you have Coverage H (Emergency Road Service), you will not bear the up-front financial burden as State Farm will be billed directly for basic service. If you do not have Coverage H, you will need to pay for the services but will do so at a competitive rate negotiated by State Farm. This rate will usually be less than what is available in the market. If you pay for the services, you can submit the receipt to your agent for reimbursement consideration. Coverage limits vary by state.
    Should you get this coverage?
Consider how much you could afford to pay out of your own pocket if you were stranded without this auto insurance coverage.
